Job Purpose
To conduct diagnostic and analytical work in the laboratory.
Key duties and responsibilities
i.Conduct disease diagnostic tests and assays in microbiology, bacteriology, serology, histopathology, molecular/PCR analyses.
ii.Conduct sample collection, processing and transportation to diagnostic facilities.
iii.Initiating, developing and implementing laboratory accreditation process and/or upgrade of accreditation status to higher levels and inclusion of more assays to the test protocols.
iv.Establish quality management in the laboratory to conform to international standards of accreditation.
v.Developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for relevant diagnostic assays.
vi.Managing the wildlife Biobank.
vii.Developing and implementing Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity measures.
viii.Taking part in sample collection, processing and transportation and transportation to diagnostic facilities under the supervision of field veterinarians and epidemiologists.
ix.Maintaining the laboratory environment clean, safe and secure and conducting risk assessment and risk mitigation.
x.Establishing mechanisms for laboratory waste management in accordance to approved SOPs and other international procedures and standards the laboratory is a subscribed to.
xi.Maintaining the quality and safety of laboratory equipment, reagents and supplies.
xii.Developing work plans and preparing periodic reports
xiii.Supervising and appraisal staff.
Person Specifications a. Qualifications
i.An Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Bio-medical Laboratory Science from a recognized University.
ii.Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
