The University seeks to hire a dynamic, student centered and visionary leader for the position of Dean of Students. The role holder will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in the development and implementation of programmes that promote students’ welfare, a vibrant, inclusive and values driven campus environment, leadership and skills development as well as community engagement initiatives that will support students to thrive academically, socially and emotionally, ultimately becoming employable and entrepreneurial.

The Dean of students is the primary administrative contact for students.

Job Title: Dean of Students Affairs

Reports to: Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic and Student Affairs

Responsible for: Deputy Dean, Students Welfare, Officer, Students Life Officer Psychosocial support providers, sports tutors, student’s guild

Works Closely with: Deputy Vice Chancellor – Research Innovation, Partnerships and Engagement (RIPE), Faculty Deans, Enrolment Office, Careers & Employability Office

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Design and implement robust and transformative student life programmesthat foster holistic development through leadership development, community engagement, wellness and sports striving for inclusive involvement.
Design and implement programs and initiatives that enhance student welfare and psychosocial stability so as to foster a campus environment where students are empowered to thrive academically, emotionally, socially and financially for holistic and professional wellbeing.
Prepare annual work plans and financial budgets for the office and oversee implementation.
Develop and implement policies and standard operating procedures (SOP) to proactively address student discipline and grievances in a conclusive and timely manner promoting a good working relationship in line with university rules and regulations.
Support the development and functioning of the student’s guild, student clubs and associations, in line with the University regulations.
Collaborate with Careers and Employability and academic faculties in developing initiatives that bridge the gap between student life and employability.
Coordinate with facility owners and advise on student accommodation to ensure affordable acceptable accommodation while ensuring the health and safety of the students
Regularly evaluate student life, welfare and employability skills development programs through surveys, focus groups, and participation metrics to ensure alignment with student needs and institutional goals.
Track and monitor international student’s status ensuring their specific and unique needs and interests, with respect to student life, welfare and employability skills development, as well as compliance, are duly met, including timely renewal of students permits to ensure
compliance with internal security and immigration requirements.
Person Specifications
Master’s degree in Education, Sociology, Psychology, Human Resource Management, Public Administration, Development Studies or a related field
At least 8 years working experience in an Institution of Higher Learning of with at least 4 years in a Leadership role.
Demonstrated leadership experience in managing student development programs, welfare services, and co-curricular activities
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and ethical standards
Past experience in working with Students in a private University or similar Institution will be an added advantage
Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively and empathetically with individuals from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds
Experience in strategic planning, program evaluation, and data-driven decision-making.
Working Knowledge and ability to communicate in French and/or Kiswahili is an added advantage.
