Job Summary:
The Production Officer is responsible for overseeing day-to-day pharmaceutical manufacturing operations in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and approved Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs). The role involves supervising production staff, coordinating batch execution, monitoring process parameters and ensuring adherence to quality, safety and regulatory standards across assigned production areas such as oral solids, liquids, powders, semi-solids or packaging. The Production Officer ensures efficient resource utilization, equipment readiness, accurate documentation and timely reporting of deviations. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong technical knowledge of pharmaceutical processes, team leadership skills, and the ability to ensure consistent product quality in a regulated environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supervise and execute the manufacturing of ointments, creams and other semi-solid formulations as per approved batch manufacturing records (BMRs).
2. Prepare manufacturing equipment and raw materials required for production ensuring equipment readiness and material accuracy.
3. Operate, monitor and adjust mixing, homogenizing and vacuum processing equipment to ensure consistency and product quality.
4. Ensure strict adherence to process parameters including temperature, mixing speed and batch times.
5. Perform and document in-process checks such as appearance, pH and viscosity and ensure corrective actions are taken if necessary.
6. Oversee bulk transfer to holding tanks or filling lines and coordinate with packaging teams to ensure smooth batch transitions.
7. Maintain accurate and complete documentation for production activities, cleaning logs, equipment logs and deviation reports.
8. Ensure cleaning and sanitization of production areas and equipment according to GMP and cleaning validation protocols.
9. Participate in process validation, technology transfer, and scale-up of new semi-solid formulations.
10. Ensure compliance with safety, hygiene and quality standards during all production activities.
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or Higher Diploma in Pharmacy, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related technical field from a recognized institution.
Experience and competencies:
1. Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in semi-solid dosage form manufacturing within a pharmaceutical or cosmetics facility.
2. In-depth knowledge of ointment and cream manufacturing processes, equipment operation, and troubleshooting.
3. Familiarity with BMRs, cleaning validation, and GMP documentation practices.
4. Strong leadership and coordination skills with the ability to supervise production operators effectively.
5. Commitment to continuous improvement, quality assurance, and process optimization.
6. Ability to work cross-functionally with QA, maintenance and R&D departments.
