Context/Scope

East African Breweries Limited (EABL) operates within a diverse, multi-cultural, and multi-national environment. The company comprises business units such as Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), East African Maltings Limited (EAML), and Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL). UBL is segmented into Demand and Supply, with the Supply division focusing on beer and spirits production. The Beer business encompasses both beer production and Ready-to-Drink (RTD) products.

Skill development among brewing staff, including technical operators, is crucial for maintaining efficient plant operations.

EABL conducts its activities in alignment with Diageo’s brewing standards, environmental policies, and occupational health and safety regulations to protect employees, contractors, suppliers, and visitors at its sites. Brewing operations run 24/7 using available resources.

The Shift Brewer oversees brew house activities including fermentation, maturation, filtration, brewing programs on shift basis; production reviews; waste management; quality control; and people management. Collaboration with Utilities, Quality Assurance, Engineering Innovations Stores Packaging customers waste environment control sections ensures seamless operations.

Continous improvement is essential in leading change management initiatives.

Purpose Of Role

Economically produce optimal beer quantity to meet demand while ensuring high-quality standards that satisfy consumer expectations and enhance marketplace value.

Role Responsibilities

Strategic Production Planning: Optimize plant operations and resource deployment to meet key targets, with proactive issue escalation and board updates.
Asset Care Leadership: Drive asset optimization through adherence to maintenance schedules and data-driven decisions.
SAP Reporting Excellence: Ensure transparency through accurate SAP reporting and resource management.
Preventive Maintenance Management: Execute PPM schedules efficiently to maintain equipment standards.
Early Equipment Management Contribution: Enhance equipment reliability by contributing insights into management processes.
Integrated Planning Participation: Align production goals with organizational objectives in planning meetings.
Team Coaching & Development: Foster continuous learning and adherence to SOPs among shift teams.
Changeover Management Oversight: Minimize downtime during transitions for efficient production flow.
Quality Control & Problem Resolution: Lead quality reports, participate in problem-solving, and model leadership skills.
Leadership in Team Dynamics: Guide team discussions on planning, skills development, and work allocation.
Leader Standard Work Completion & Safety Assurance: Maintain product standards while ensuring safety compliance during shifts.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives & Process Optimization: Deploy MMS systems, Coach problem-solving for systemic resolutions, lead improvement projects using DMAIC methodology, regularly review performance metrics for actioning improvements and Update SOPs as needed for process streamlining.

Education

Qualifications & Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in food science technology Biochemistry Industrial Chemistry Chemical Engineering
Postgraduate Diploma Brewing Technology Malting Distilling Science
Associate member Institute Brewing Distilling IBD required

Experience

Minimum two years’ industry experience food beverage manufacturing
Knowledge ISO 9001 HACCP ISO 14001 OHSAS 18001 other management systems
