AAR Clinic is hiring a Laboratory-In-Charge will be responsible for technical support, supervision and control of the activities of the Laboratory in the AAR Health Centre allocated Clinic with respect and reference to the AAR Health Care Uganda Standards and guidelines.

WORK STATION: AAR CLINIC

REPORTING TO: HEALTH CENTER MANAGER

DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: LABORATORY STAFF

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Attainment of Laboratory performance targets.

• Customer satisfaction rating.

• Participate in revenue generating activities.

• Provide Leadership to the Laboratory Department.

• Planning and scheduling of departmental duty rotas, assigning tasks, and evaluating performance

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Directly oversees the laboratory operations at the clinic and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the laboratory staff.

• Responsible for ensuring that all laboratory staff perform their duties in a technically accurate manner that conforms to the AAR standards and national guidelines.

• Ensuring quality, accurate and consistent results are generated within 30 minutes for the simple primary health care tests.

• Manage and meet client expectations by prioritizing interests and providing services with guiding principles of patients’ dignity.

• Attend to customer issues and resolve customer complaints in a timely manner.

• Investigate any complaint arising in the laboratory and give feedback to the Health Centre Manager in less than 12 hours.

• Perform daily quality control and quality assurance activities on reagents, kits, and machines and produce daily, weekly and monthly reports.

• Participate in laboratory stock management and also monitor that the equipment and consumables are sufficient for the anticipated work (Ensure appropriate stock levels versus tests done) and share reports.

• Timely communicate to the regional laboratory coordinator and Health Centre Manager any problems related to laboratory operations, including equipment, stock management and staff.

• Ensure compliance with AAR Standard Operating Procedures by all laboratory staff in the health Centre and participate in monthly CMEs and other trainings.

• Training and mentoring laboratory personnel as per AAR Standards and MOH guidelines.

• Responsible for departmental data integrity and security of patient information with high levels of confidentiality.

• Participate in developing and/or updating SOPs in coordination with the regional laboratory coordinator and Quality assurance Department.

• Participate in revenue generating activities like marketing of the laboratory services and other company packages.

• Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the direct or immediate supervisor.

KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES:

• Ensure quality, accurate and consistent results are generated within 20 minutes for the simple primary health care tests.

• Achieve above 95% customer satisfaction rating.

• Management of Laboratory Stock levels.

• Turnaround time on all “normal” tests in the lab maintained at 10 minutes.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology or its equivalent from an accredited Institution in Medical (clinical) Laboratory Sciences.

• Knowledge of GCLPs, LQMS and other relevant best practices and standards.

• Must be fully registered with Allied Health Professionals Council (AHPC) with 2025 APL and certificate of registration.

EXPERIENCE:

• A minimum of five years’ experience working in a medical laboratory setting with at least four years of management experience.

• Relevant technical knowledge and practices to personnel and laboratory operations.

• Knowledge of the principles and practices laboratory biosafety.

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER COMPETENCIES:

• Good people skills and a team player.

• Strong oral and written communications skills.

• Strengths in managing conflicting priorities and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to lead a laboratory technical team.
