Introduction
Luigi Giussani Foundation (LGF), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is proposing to implement the Leaders in Teaching (LIT) program, a flagship initiative designed to transform secondary education in Uganda by addressing barriers to quality teaching and learning, with a particular emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. Designed to further Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works Strategy, the LIT program aims at strengthening Uganda’s secondary education system to better equip young people, particularly young women, with the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to access dignified livelihoods and fulfilling work.

About Luigi Giussani Foundation
Luigi Giussani Foundation (LGF) is an indigenous for-impact organisation that has been at the forefront of responding to responding to educational challenges in Uganda through research and capacity building. Based in Luzira, Kampala, LGF implements programs in the following thematic areas: Teacher Professional Development, Life Skills and Values Enhancement, Foundational Learning and School Culture, and Leadership and Management. All these programs are delivered with an emphasis on Gender Transformative Education, Climate and Environment Education, Agency and Wellbeing, Research and Learning and Advocacy and Partnerships as cross-cutting issues.
Objectives of the LIT Program
The LIT Program aims to transform Uganda’s secondary education into an innovative, quality, and relevant education system that enables students to advance in education and transition into the workforce by 2030. The 5-year (2025-2030) LIT program is designed to deliver four key outcomes, namely 1) Elevated status of the teaching profession; 2) Improved teaching and learning practices in secondary schools; 3) School leaders increasingly adopt effective leadership practices; and 4) Motivated secondary education teaching workforce.
The key interventions for the LIT program include piloting the recruitment of passionate young people into the teaching profession, training STEM teachers, strengthening school leadership, and elevating teachers’ professional status in Uganda. It will focus on developing inclusive, gender-responsive, and innovative delivery of STEM courses and addressing barriers to teacher capacity, particularly in rural areas.

Job title: ICT Officer

Job Summary
The ICT Officer will play a pivotal role in supporting the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into teaching and learning practices. This role will ensure the smooth functioning of ICT systems, infrastructure, and digital tools used within the program to enhance educational delivery. The ICT Officer will work closely with program teams to implement ICT solutions, provide technical support, and ensure the effective use of
technology to improve the quality of secondary education.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical support for ICT equipment, software, and systems used in the program
• Support the implementation of educational technology tools, platforms, and resources within schools to enhance teaching, learning, and student engagement
• Ensure secure and efficient management of program data, including backups, storage, and data protection protocols, in compliance with LGF’s data security policies
• Monitor the use of ICT resources, collecting data and providing regular reports on ICT performance, usage, and challenges
• Manage the procurement of ICT equipment and software, ensuring that resources are available and properly maintained
• Maintain an inventory of ICT equipment and assets for the program
• Provide ICT support for events, workshops, and training sessions, including managing audiovisual equipment and ensuring seamless connectivity
• Work with external partners, vendors, and service providers to ensure the smooth functioning of ICT infrastructure and resolve technical issues as they arise
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
• At least (4) four years of experience in ICT support, network management, or technology integration in an education or development setting
• Strong knowledge of ICT systems, hardware, software, and e-learning platforms
• Experience with troubleshooting ICT systems, including hardware and software issues.
• Ability to deliver ICT training and support to non-technical staff, especially in educational settings
• Understanding of data security and privacy policies related to educational technology
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
• Excellent problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Attributes
• Experience working with e-learning platforms or educational technology tools
• Knowledge of ICT integration into teaching, including digital literacy and interactive learning
• Familiarity with ICT policies and best practices in educational settings
• Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to travel to remote regions within the implementation areas as required
