Background
Luigi Giussani Foundation (LGF) is an indigenous for impact organisation that has been at the forefront of responding to educational challenges in Uganda through researche and capacity building at all levels of education. Based in Luzira, Kampala, LGF implements programs in the following thematic areas; Teacher Professional Development, Life Skills and Values Enhancement, Foundational Learning and School Culture, Leadership and Management. All these programs are delivered with emphasis on Gender Transformative Education, Climate and Environment Education, Agency and Wellbeing, Research and Learning, and Advocacy and Partnerships as cross-cutting issues.
As part of its commitment to continue fostering a culture of accountability and learning, LGF plans to undertake a study to understand how teacher agency translates into action and its relationship with teacher well-being among primary school teachers in Uganda. The study will be conducted in two districts – Kampala and Arua. To support this exercise, LGF is seeking to recruit Research Assistants to assist with data collection. The assignment is expected to last between six (6) to ten (10) days.
Key duties and responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Study Field Supervisor, the Research Assistants will be responsible for the following tasks:
Participate in a two-day training at a designated location.
Assist in scheduling and field preparation, including identifying and locating sampled schools.
Obtain informed consent from all study participants before any data collection.
Collect and record data appropriately, including administering teacher surveys, conducting classroom observations, interviews, and focus group discussions.
Support data management tasks as required.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of all collected data.
Adhere strictly to ethical guidelines, ensuring confidentiality of all information and participants at all times.
Follow established procedures for the safe storage of both qualitative and quantitative data, including handling sensitive data with the highest integrity.
Maintain thorough documentation throughout the data collection process.
Participate in daily field debrief sessions and raise any challenges or issues encountered during data collection to inform adjustments.
Undertake any additional duties as stipulated in the recruitment contract or as assigned by the Field Supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised institution.
Must be a resident in one of the study districts – Kampala and Arua.
Fluency in English.
At least one year of demonstrated experience in data collection using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
Prior experience using mobile data collection applications such as ODK and KoboCollect.
Experience conducting research involving multiple stakeholders, including teachers.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent communication skills
Experience working with diverse communities and sectors, particularly within education contexts.
