BACKGROUND
Safe Way Right Way Initiative Uganda is an NGO founded by Total Energies and world Bank to implement initiatives with an objective to reduce
road traffic crashes on the Ugandan road Network.
The institution implements initiatives with an aim in improving the safety of people on Ugandan roads guided by the Safe systems approach.
Strategic focus has been placed on building collaboration and partnerships with key stakeholders to prioritize funding for implementing safe
systems. The narrative of African roads as prevailing death traps can be changed with continuous deliberations among the community of
practice with focus on multi-disciplinary institutional engagement.
Safe Way Right Way is seeking to recruit suitable candidates for the positions listed below:
1. Job Title: Project Officer – Road Safety Projects
Reports to: Manager Strategy
Duty Station: Kampala
Roles and Responsibilities:
o Support the development of detailed project work plans and activity schedules.
o Coordinate logistics, procurement requests, and resource allocation for road safety project activities.
o Ensure that project timelines, milestones, and deliverables are met in line with organizational and donor requirements.
o Participate in the delivery of road safety awareness campaigns, training sessions, and community engagements.
o Support the implementation of behaviour change and educational programs targeting drivers, pedestrians, and vulnerable road users.
o Work with enforcement agencies, transport stakeholders, and government bodies to implement practical road safety measures.
o Liaise with district authorities, schools, transport companies, police, and community leaders to mobilize participation in road safety initiatives.
o Represent SWRW at stakeholder meetings, workshops, and coordination platforms as assigned.
o Assist in developing communication materials and messages for awareness campaigns.
o Collect and compile project data, including attendance sheets, photos, and field reports.
o Support monitoring and evaluation activities by conducting pre- and post-intervention surveys or assessments.
o Contribute to the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports, success stories, and case studies for internal and donor reporting.
o Ensure adherence to SWRW’s safeguarding, procurement, and safety protocols during project implementation.
o Identify and escalate risks or issues that may affect project outcomes or safety.
Required Qualifications
o Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a bias in Transport planning, Public Health, Environmental Health, Transport & Logistics, or a related field.
o At least 2–4 years of experience working in project implementation, preferably in an NGO or road safety-related context.
o Experience working with communities, schools, local government structures, is an advantage.
Key Competencies
o Strong organizational and time management skills.
o Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
o Ability to work independently and in a team, often under tight deadlines.
o Willingness to travel frequently within project locations.
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic data entry tools.
o Knowledge of Uganda’s road safety landscape, traffic law, and transport systems
