Job Title : Senior Legal Officer

Responsible for : Legal Officer
Job Purpose
To provide technical and strategic guidance in the development and enforcement of a
robust and facilitative legal and regulatory framework for the Institute
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides legal services to the Institute including drafting of agreements, contracts, registration and protection of intellectual property, memoranda and other legal documents.
2. Analyses, critiques and proffers legal opinion on administrative and policy decisions on matters of law.
3. Liaises with various institutions on any legal matters including representation in Courts of Law.
4. Conducts due diligence on firms intending to carry out major projects for supply of goods or services to the Institute.
5. Plans, prepares and executes the budgets of the Unit.
6. Reports on the activities and performance of the legal teams.
7. Interprets laws and other statutory instruments relating to the Institute.
8. Conducts legal research and drafts legal submissions and legal briefs to facilitate the defense team in court proceedings.
9. Supervises, mentors and appraises staff of the Unit.

1. Legal services to the Institute provided.

3. Support for networking with various institutions on legal matters affecting the Institute provided.
4. Due diligence for major projects or undertakings done.

Person Specifications
Qualifications
i. An Honours Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized institution.
ii. A Post graduate Diploma in legal practice from Law Development Centre or other recognized institution.
iii. Should be an enrolled advocate of the High Court with a valid practicing certificate.
