Description
Silverback Lodge is hiring a Sous Chef to craft culinary experiences that delight guests after a day of gorilla trekking or forest exploration. In a kitchen serving both international travelers and local visitors, you’ll assist the Head Chef in delivering fresh, flavorful meals—often blending Ugandan staples like matoke with global cuisines—while adapting to the lodge’s limited supply chain in Bwindi.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in menu planning and food preparation, balancing taste and presentation.
- Supervise kitchen staff during meal services, ensuring timely delivery in a high-pressure setting.
- Manage food inventory and adapt recipes to available local ingredients (e.g., produce from nearby villages).
- Maintain hygiene and safety standards in the kitchen.
- Step in as Head Chef when needed, ensuring consistency for guests.
Qualifications
- Culinary training or 3+ years of kitchen experience, with supervisory skills.
- Creativity with Ugandan and international dishes—experience with farm-to-table cooking is a bonus.
- Ability to work long hours in a remote location with basic facilities.
