Tugende is tackling the credit gap for small businesses in Africa by enabling informal entrepreneurs to 1) own income‑generating assets, 2) build a verifiable digital credit profile, and 3) earn future growth opportunities through the Tugende digital platform. This platform includes discounts, smartphones, e‑commerce opportunities, and on‑demand credit lines. Tugende has financed 80,000+ clients and has hundreds of employees serving clients across its branches in Uganda and Kenya.

 

Job Summary: The Sales Manager is responsible for leading and managing the sales team and cross-functional sales efforts to achieve the company’s client acquisition targets. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of sales experience with at least 3 years of experience in a similar leadership role, a strong understanding of our customer base, and the ability to design creative ways to generate leads and convert them into sales.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Sales drive and Strategy:

In collaboration with the Marketing team, develop and implement sales strategies to meet or exceed assigned sales targets consistently
Coordinate with branch executives, account managers and other branch staff to ensure sales effectiveness and implement demand generating activities through all channels of the company
Sales Monitoring

Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and forecasts using CRM software.
Prepare and deliver regular sales reports and forecasts to the senior management, branch executives and investors as and when required.
Maintain active sight of the sales pipeline for all locations using Tugende systems and detecting / escalating any hindrances in time.
Lead Generation

Develop new business opportunities through networking, community engagement, and industry events.
Pursue potential clients through lead gathering, lead follow ups, and outreach activities.
Educate the community and potential clients about Tugende’s offerings.
Supervision

Lead and manage a team of Sales Representatives located across the company’s locations
Monitor and track sales performance and provide timely feedback to the Sales Representatives.
Provide training and development to the Sales Representatives
Customer Engagement:

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, community leadership, and key industry players to understand their needs, suggest tailored solutions, and ensure strong brand reputation.
Conduct or participate in customer insights and market research projects and advise senior management on market dynamics, risks and opportunities.
Product Knowledge and services:

Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the products offered by the company and the sales/ credit processes for acquiring them to potential customers and the general public.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years sales experience with at least 3 years of experience in a sales management role
Strong understanding of the company’s customer base
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in CRM software and sales tools.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Compensation: Commensurate with experience with a base pay and a significant upside structure fully linked to delivery of targets on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
